Mara Hvistendahl, author of Unnatural Selection, to speak Saturday June 18

Minnesota author Mara Hvistendahl will talk about her book Unnatural Selection; Choosing Boys over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, on Saturday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Northfield Public Library  The author is a Beijing-based correspondent for Science.  Her award winning writing has also appeared in Harper's, Scientific American, Popular Science, The Financial Times and Foreign Policy.  Proficient in both Spanish and Chinese, she has spent half of the past decade in China, where she has reported on everything from archaeology to the space program.  This is her first book.
Stephen J. Dubner, author of Freakanonmics and Superfreakanonmics, wrote of Hvistendahl's book, "Yes, it is a rigorous exploration of the world's 'missing women,' but more than that, too:  an extraordinarily vivid look at the implications of the problem.  Histendahl writes beautifully, with an eye for detail but also the big picture."
