Contemporary Women Writer's Book Group

The Contemporary Women Writers Book group meets on the second Tuesday of the month.  We will meet again on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting room to discuss The Red Garden, Alice Hoffman's latest novel.  New members are always welcome.
The group last met on Tuesday, May 10, and discussed David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars.  We chose this book after reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, in April.  Both novels deal with the Japanese internment camps during World War II, and both are set in Washington state.
We all agreed that Guterson's book was beautifully written.  It was not a quick read because of the descriptions, extensive characterizations, and different points of view.  Some of us had read this book when it was published during the 1990's, and were glad to reread it again.  In addition to a very involved plot, the book beautifully caputures the Pacific Northwest setting.
