Marketing the Library Collection

Have you been upstairs lately?  Have you noticed books and materials in different locations of the library in the last few weeks?  Yes, the librarians are trying different techniques to market our great collection.  First of all, readers who are used to looking at new fiction and nonfiction downstairs are now coming upstairs and browsing those books where the large print books used to be.  Our large print collection is now in the back room, across from the periodical room.  If you walked upstairs, you probably noticed two tables at the top of the stairs with big displays of books.  On one table, we have crafts.  Fall is a good time to think about starting a craft project.  Maybe you can make a gift for Christmas!  Last week we had cookbooks fitting the change of seasons - nice soups, breads, etc. that we feel called to make when the temperatures drop.
On another table we have a large collection of "good fiction."   Of course, all fiction is "good" to some readers, or they would not be in the library.  However, most of the titles on this table have won awards. Are you looking for books for your book club? Look at the titles on this table Award winning books are usually good for discussions.
We also have displays on shelves half way up our stairs.  One is currently displaying decorating books.  Are you planning a redecorating project, or do you just like to browse and make a wish list?  Look at these books.   Another display honors Nobel Prize award winning authors.  The Nobel Prize in Literature was just recently awarded to Alice Monroe.  Enjoy our new displays and let us know if you have a good idea for a display you haven't seen.
